हाथों में स्वर्ण मोतियों के साथ गुँथे काले मोतियों वाले 'मनघटियों' का या आरक्त नन्हे चरणों में रुनझुन बजती पैंजनियों का?

स्मृतियों के बहुत छोटे-छोटे किंतु बहुत सारे मखमली लम्हे उसकी मन-मंजूषा में संजोकर रखे गए हैं। किसी अमूल्य धरोहर की भांति, कैसे झांकेंगे आप?

कितनी बार नन्ही लातें उस पर चलाईं? कितनी बार आपने क्या-क्या तोड़ा, बिखेरा और उसने समेटा। कितनी मिन्नतों के बाद किसी चूजे की भाँति आप चार चावल दाने चुगते थे और आपकी भूख से वह अकुला उठती थी। क्या याद है आपको वह सुहानी संध्या जब दीया-बाती के समय मंत्र, श्लोक और स्तुतियों के माध्यम से आपकी सुकोमल हृदय धरा पर वह संस्कार और सभ्यता के बीज रोपा करती थी। नहीं भूले होंगे आप वे फरमाइशें और नखरे जिन्हें वह पलकों पर उठाया करती थीं।

दाल-चावल से लेकर मटर पुलाव तक, अजवाइन डली नमकीन पूरी से लेकर मैथी-पराठे तक, मलाईदार श्रीखंड से लेकर पूरनपोली तक और कुरकुरी भिंडी से लेकर भुट्‍टे के किस तक कितने प्यार में पके रसीले व्यंजन हैं जो मां के सिवा किसी और की स्मृति दिला ही नहीं सकते।

याद कीजिए अपने किसी साधारण से बुखार को। सिरहाने रखे भिलामें, राई, दूध की ठंडी भीगी पट्टियाँ, तुलसी का काढ़ा, अमृतांजन, नारियल तेल में महकता कपूर और मां की चिंतातुर उंगलियां। चुका सकेंगे इन महकते भावुक लम्हों का मोल?

उम्र बीत जाने पर भी मां के धीरज बंधाते बोल आप भुला नहीं सकते ' सो जा बेटा बीमारी हाथी की चाल से आती है और चींटी की चाल से जाती है।' तपते तन-मन पर जैसे ठंडे मुलायम फाहे रख दिए हों।

आज भी उसकी डांट आपको भीतर तक भिगो देती है। 'मैं समझाती हूं तो कहां समझ में आता है, देखा, हो गए ना बीमार?' एक ऐसी डांट जिसमें चिंता की कोंपलें सहज फूटती दिखाई पड़ जाती है, उसके छुपाते-छुपाते भी। प्रार्थना के फूल बुदबुदाते स्वरों में ही झर जाते हैं उसके संभालते-संभालते भी। प्यार की हरी पत्तियां झांक ही लेती हैं दबाते-दबाते भी।

मां को ईश्वर ने सृजनशक्ति देकर एक विलक्षण व्यवस्था का भागीदार बनाया है। एक अघोषित अव्यक्त व्यवस्‍था, किंतु उसका पालन हर मां कर रही है। चाहे वह कपिला धेनु हो, नन्ही सी चिड़िया हो या वनराज सिंह की अर्धांगिनी। इस व्यवस्‍था को समझिए जरा। आपने कभी नहीं देखा होगा गाय का बछड़ा मां को चाट रहा है। चिड़िया के बच्चे उसके लिए दाना ला रहे हैं और मां की चोंच में डाल रहे हैं या शावक अपनी मां के लिए शिकार ला रहे हैं।

प्रकृति ने ही मां को पोषण देने का अधिकार दिया है। वही पोषण देती है और सही समय आने पर पोषण जुटाने का प्रशिक्षण भी। पोषण देने में वह जितनी कोमल है प्रशिक्षण देने में उतनी ही कठोर। मां दोनों ही रूपों में पूजनीय है।

इन दोनों ही रूपों में संतान का कल्याण निहित होता है।

'उसको नहीं देखा हमने कभी...

पर उसकी जरूरत क्या होगी,

...हे मां तेरी सूरत से अलग

भगवान की सूरत क्या होगी...

ईश्वर हर जगह नहीं पहुंच सकता इसीलिए उसने मां बना दी। जो हर किसी की होती है, हर किसी के पास होती है। शारीरिक उपस्थिति मां के लिए मायने नहीं रखती। वह होती है तो उसकी ईश्वरीय छाया सुख देती है जब 'नहीं' होती है तब उसके आशीर्वादों का कवच हमें सुरक्षा प्रदान करता है। मां हमेशा है और रहेगी उसके 'होने' का ही महानतम अर्थ है शेष सारे आलेख और उपन्यास, कहानी और कविता व्यर्थ है। क्योंकि मां शब्दातीता है, वर्णनों से परे है। फिर भी उसे शब्दों में समेटने की, वर्णनों में बांधने की चेष्टाएं, नाकाम कोशिशें हुई हैं, होती रहेंगी।

कभी लगता है मां एक अथाह नीला समंदर है, जो समा लेता है सबको अपने आप में, अपने अस्तित्व में, अपने व्यक्तित्व में फिर भी वह कभी नहीं उफनता। शांत, धीर, गंभीर उदात्त बना रहता है।

हमारी संस्कृति में वसुंधरा को माता कहा गया है। वसुधा जो निरंतर देने और सिर्फ देने में विश्वास रखती है। लेती वही है जो अनुपयोगी है, व्यर्थ है। और देती है, जो उपयोगी है, कल्याणकारी है, जीवनदायी है।

मां अपने दिन का आरंभ चाहे 'ॐ अस्य श्री रामरक्षा स्रोत मंत्रस्य...' से करे, चाहे 'वाहे गुरु दी कृपा....' से, चाहे 'ला इल्लाह...' से या फिर 'ओ गॉड...' से। हृदय के पवित्र पूजा-पात्र में सुकल्याण का एक ही शीतल जल थिरकता है- 'मेरी संतान यशस्वी हो, चिरायु हो, संस्कारी हो, सफल हो और वैभवशाली हो। उसकी राहों में कोई अवरोध न हो। निष्कंटक, निर्मल उजली राहों में वह कभी रुके नहीं, थके नहीं, झुके नहीं और अवसरों को चूके नहीं।'

इस निश्छल प्रार्थना के साथ जुड़ी होती है मां की परीक्षा। अपनी हृदय-बगिया के समुन को आँखों से दूर करना होगा। इस जीवन में मां ही है जिसे इस कठिन परीक्षा से गुजरना होता है और वह सफल भी होती है।

भारतीय संस्कृ‍‍ति की पारंपरिक मां बहुत भोली, बहुत भावुक होती है। औपचारिकताओं के प्रतिकूल परिवेश में उसकी सहजता कसमसाती है। सादगी, स्वाभाविकता और स्वतंत्रता उसके दमकते गुण रत्न हैं। वह बनावटी हो ही नहीं सकती।

कल जिन्हें वह सिखाया-समझाया करती थी, वही आज उसे सिखाते-समझाते हैं, 'क्या कहें, क्या ना कहें। किंतु उसे कुछ याद नहीं रहता वह तो मौका मिलते ही प्रवाहित होने लगती है बातों के स्नेहिल झरने में।

कल जिसने हमें बोलना सिखाया, आज हम उसी को बोलने नहीं देते! क्यों? मां पुरानी, उसकी बातें पुरानी, उसके मूल्य पुराने। हम बर्दाश्त नहीं कर पाते।

हम नहीं जानते मां की एक आंख पीठ पर होती है जिससे वह नए मूल्यों, नए प्रवाह, नए रुझानों और नए चोंचलों को देखती, परखती और निरखती है।

उसमें से आपका हित-अनहित भी लगातार मथती है। मां देहरी पर सजती कुंकुम रंगोली है, घर को आलोकित करता निष्कंप दीपक है, अंजुलि से 'आदित्य' को चढ़ता आस्था का अर्घ्य है और चमकते चंद्रमा सा एक शीतल धैर्य है। वह जीवन की पाठशाला की गुरुजी ही नहीं बल्कि चॉक, कलम, पट्‍टी और तड़ातड़ पड़ती छड़ी भी वही है।

उसकी अप्रतिम सुगंध हमारे रोम-रोम से प्रस्फुटित होती है लेकिन हमारी सांस-सांस की हर महक उसकी आत्मा से उठती है। पौराणिक काल की पार्वती से लेकर त्रेता युग की सीता तक, द्वापर युग की यशोदा, कुंती से लेकर राजा-महाराजा के युग की जीजाबाई, अहिल्या देवी तक और कस्तूरबा से लेकर मदर टेरेसा तक मातृत्व की अद्‍भुत परंपरा को जन्म देने वाली हर मां को नमन।

क्योंकि 'जननी जन्मभूमिश्च

स्वर्गादपि, गरीयसी अर्थात

'जननी, जन्मभूमि स्वर्ग से महान है।'

धरती पर उपस्थित साक्षात चमत्कार है मां।

उसके प्रति व्यक्त सम्मान परिधि से परे है।
