''हमारी शादी को उस समय दो या तीन महीने ही हुए थे, हम हर दूसरे या तीसरे वीकेंड में फ़िल्म देखने जाते थे। एक दिन मैंने मोना (पत्नी) से कहा कि ऑफ़िस में बहुत काम है इसलिए फिल्म के लिए नहीं चल सकते। इतना सुनते ही वो अचानक नाराज़ होने लगी। बहुत ज़्यादा ही गुस्सा करने लगी, मैं हैरान था कि इतनी छोटी सी बात पर वो इतना गुस्सा क्यों हो रही है।''
यह कहते हुए संतोष हंसने लगते हैं, साथ ही उनके बगल में बैठी मोना अपनी हंसी को छुपाने की कोशिश करने लगती है। दोनों की शादी को एक साल से ज़्यादा हो चुका है और अब उनके बीच काफ़ी अच्छी बॉन्डिंग है। संतोष और मोना की अरेंज मैरिज हुई थी। संतोष जिस वाकये को याद कर रहे हैं दरअसल उस समय मोना प्री-मेंस्ट्रुअल स्ट्रेस (पीएमएस) के दौर से गुज़र रही थीं।
राजस्थान का मामला
मोना और संतोष जिस बात को हंसते हुए बता रहे थे कभी-कभी उसके बेहद गंभीर नतीजे भी सामने आ सकते हैं। कुछ दिन पहले राजस्थान के अजमेर से एक मामला सामने आया, जिसमें एक महिला ने अपने तीन बच्चों को कुएं में फेंक दिया था। इनमें से एक बच्चे की मौत हो गई थी।
जब राजस्थान हाईकोर्ट में केस चला तो महिला की तरफ से दलील दी गई कि घटना के समय वह प्री-मेंस्ट्रुअल स्ट्रेस (पीएमएस) के दौर से गुज़र रही थीं जिस वजह से उन्हें ध्यान नहीं रहा कि वो क्या क़दम उठाने जा रही हैं। कोर्ट ने महिला की दलील से सहमत होते हुए उन्हें बरी कर दिया।
क्या होता है पीएमएस?
पीएमएस महिला के पीरियड्स शुरू होने से पांच से सात दिन पहले का वक्त होता है। इस दौरान महिलाओं के व्यवहार में कुछ बदलाव महसूस होने लगता है। उन्हें कोई खास चीज़ खाने की इच्छा होती है या फिर उनके व्यवहार में चिड़चिड़ापन देखने को मिलने लगता है। इतना ही नहीं कई मामलों में तो महिलाओं को आत्महत्या करने जैसे विचार भी आने लगते हैं।
दिल्ली के लक्ष्मीनगर में गाइनोकॉलजिस्ट डॉक्टर अदिति आचार्य पीएमएस को समझाते हुए कहती हैं, ''महिलाओं के शरीर में होने वाले हार्मोनल बदलाव के चलते पीएमएस होता है। इस दौरान लड़कियों को अपने शरीर में दर्द महसूस होता है, विशेषतौर पर पेट और ब्रेस्ट के पास। इसके अलावा लड़कियों के मूड में अचानक बदलाव होने लगते हैं, वे कभी गुस्सा तो कभी अचानक खुश होने लगती हैं। छोटी-छोटी बातों में रोना आने लगता है।''
पब्लिक लाइब्रेरी ऑफ़ साइंस जर्नल PLosONE में पीएमएस पर एक रिसर्च प्रकाशित की गई थी। अप्रैल 2017 में छपे इस रिसर्च के अनुसार 90 प्रतिशत महिलाएं पीएमएस का अनुभव करती हैं। इनमें से 40 प्रतिशत महिलाओं को इस दौरान तनाव महसूस होता है और इनमें से दो से पांच प्रतिशत महिलाएं बहुत अधिक तनाव का शिकार हो जाती हैं जिससे उनकी आम ज़िंदगी पर असर पड़ने लगता है।

पुरुषों में जानकारी का अभाव
एक बात जिस पर गौर किया जाना चाहिए वह यह कि इस दौरान महिलाओं को मानसिक सुकून की सबसे ज़्यादा तलाश होती है। वो चाहती हैं कि उनके साथी उनकी परेशानी को समझें और मुश्किल हालात में उनका साथ दें। बीकॉम फ़ाइनल ईयर के छात्र आयुष अपनी गर्लफ्रेंड के ऐसे ही बेवक्त बदलते मूड से परेशान थे।
वो बताते हैं, ''हमारे रिलेशनशिप को दो साल हो गए हैं, लेकिन शुरुआत में मुझे नहीं मालूम था कि लड़कियों को इस तरह की प्रॉब्लम फ़ेस करनी होती है, एक दिन मेरी गर्लफ्रेंड बेवजह ही गुस्सा होने लगी और फिर छोटी सी बात पर रोने लगी। मैं भी उस वक्त नाराज़ होकर वहां से चला गया।''
आयुष बताते हैं कि बाद में उन्होंने गूगल में इसके बारे में जानकारी जुटाई तो उन्हें कुछ-कुछ समझ में आया। आयुष कहते हैं कि अब जब कभी उनकी गर्लफ्रेंड का मूड अचानक बदलता है तो वे पहले ही पूछ लेते हैं कहीं पीरियड तो शुरू नहीं होने वाले।
डॉक्टर अदिति आयुष की बात को आगे समझाते हुए कहती हैं, ''मेरे पास बहुत से कपल आते हैं जिसमें लड़कों को पीरियड्स के बारे में ज़्यादा जानकारी नहीं होती, उन्हें यह पता ही नहीं होता कि उनकी पार्टनर किस दर्द या हालात का सामना कर रही है, इसी वजह से वे अपने पार्टनर के बदलते रुख से नाराज़ हो जाते हैं जिससे परेशानियां और ज़्यादा बढ़ जाती हैं।''
पार्टनर की भूमिका
मोना अपनी शादी के शुरुआती दिन और अब के वक्त को याद करते हुए कहती हैं कि उनके पति के व्यवहार में काफ़ी बदलाव आया है। वो कहती हैं, ''मेरे पति की बहनें भी हैं लेकिन उन्हें पीरियड्स के बारे में ज़्यादा जानकारी नहीं थी। उन्हें मेरे बदलते मूड का अंदाजा नहीं लग पाता था। वो नाराज़ हो जाते थे, लेकिन अब वो काफी सारी बातें समझने लगे हैं। उनका साथ मिलने से मेरे लिए भी पीएमएस के मुश्किल वक्त को निकालना आसान हो जाता है।''
PLosONE की रिपोर्ट बताती है हेट्रोसेक्सुअल कपल के मुकाबले लेस्बियन कपल के बीच पीएमएस का दौर काफ़ी आराम से बीतता है। इसके अनुसार लेस्बियन कपल में दोनों पार्टनर लड़कियां होती हैं तो वो एक दूसरे की समस्या को भी काफ़ी अच्छे तरीके से समझ पाती हैं और यही वजह है कि मुश्किल वक्त में अपने साथी को बेहतर तरीके से सपोर्ट कर पाती हैं।
डॉक्टर अदिति इस बात पर कहती हैं कि पुरुष पार्टनर भी अगर अपनी महिला साथी को बेहतर तरीके से समझने लगे तो आधी से अधिक समस्या का समाधान निकल जाता है। वो यह भी मानती हैं कि आमतौर पर पीएमएस में मूड स्विंग जैसी चीज़ें होती हैं लेकिन अगर कोई बहुत अधिक तनाव का सामना कर रहा है तो उसे डॉक्टर की मदद ज़रूर लेनी चाहिए।
थैरेपी की मदद
ब्रिट्रेन की एक वेबसाइट द कनवरसेशन ने पिछले साल पीएमस पर एक स्टडी की। इस स्टडी के दौरान उन्होंने पीएमएस से जूझ रही महिलाओं पर कपल में और सिंगल में थैरेपी दे कर उनके व्यवहार को परखा। इस स्टडी में पाया गया कि जिस थैरेपी में कपल शामिल थे उनमें पीएमएस से उबरने की संभावनाएं ज़्यादा थी। जबकि अकेले थैरेपी में शामिल होने वाली महिलाओं में ऐसा अंतर नज़र नहीं आया।
कॉलेज जाने वाले आयुष की मानें तो जब से उन्होंने पीरियड्स और पीएमएस जैसी बातों को समझना शुरू किया है तब से उनका रिश्ता भी बेहद खूबसूरत हो गया है। डॉक्टर अदिति भी इस बारे में कहती हैं, ''जब पुरुष अपनी साथी के दर्द को समझने लगते हैं और उनका ख़्याल रखने लगते हैं तो रिश्ते में गहराई बढ़ जाती है।''
महिलाओं के शरीर में आने वाले बदलाव की जानकारी देते हुए डॉक्टर अदिति बताती हैं, ''पीएमएस के दौरान महिलाओं के पेट, ब्रेस्ट और निजी अंग में खून की मात्रा बढ़ जाती है और उन्हें दर्द महसूस होता है। अब सोचिए किसी के निजी अंगों के आसपास दर्द हो रहा हो तो वह खुश कैसे रह सकता है। ऐसे में अगर आपका पार्टनर आपके दर्द को समझ रहा है और कितना सुकून मिलेगा।''
अपनी पत्नी मोना के साथ बैठे संतोष हंसते हुए कहते हैं, ''शुरू में तो मुझे लगता था जब बीवी के पीरियड्स होने लगें तो पतियों को सुरक्षा कवच पहन कर रखना चाहिए, लेकिन अब लगता है कि इस मुश्किल वक्त में हमें उनका सुरक्षा कवच बन जाना चाहिए।''
