श्राद्ध पक्ष प्रारंभ हो गया है। इन दिनों में पितृ अपने वंश का कल्याण करेंगे। वह इस समय घर में सुख-शांति-समृद्धि का आशीर्वाद प्रदान करेंगे। जिनकी कुंडली में पितृ दोष हो, उनको अवश्य अर्पण-तर्पण करना चाहिए। श्राद्ध करने से हमारे पितृ तृप्त होते हैं।

क्यों कहते हैं कनागत -अश्विन मास के कृष्ण पक्ष के समय सूर्य कन्या राशि में स्थित होता है और सूर्य के कन्यागत होने से ही इन 16 दिनों को कनागत कहा जाता है।

श्राद्ध क्या है - पितरों के प्रति तर्पण अर्थात जलदान पिंडदान पिंड के रूप में पितरों को समर्पित किया गया भोजन व दान इत्यादि ही श्राद्ध कहा जाता है। देव, ऋषि और पितृ ऋण के निवारण के लिए श्राद्ध कर्म सबसे आसान उपाय है। अपने पूर्वजों का स्मरण करने और उनके मार्ग पर चलने और सुख-शांति की कामना करने को ही श्राद्ध कर्म कहते हैं।
