ग्लैमर विवादों और रोमांच से भरपूर बॉलीवुड फिल्म की तरह सुपरहिट रहे इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग का पहला साल दिग्गजों की दुर्दशा और एक छिपे रुस्तमों की जीत के लिए याद रखा जाएगा। सबसे कम दामों पर खरीदी गई राजस्थान रॉयल्स की टीम को चैम्पियन बनाने वाले फिरकी के जादूगर शेन वॉर्न का यह करिश्मा क्रिकेट के इतिहास में हमेशा के लिए दर्ज हो गया।

टूर्नामेंट में सर्वश्रेष्ठ कप्तान साबित हुए वॉर्न ने सिताराविहीन टीम को विजेता का दर्जा दिलाकर साबित कर दिया कि ऑस्ट्रेलियाई क्रिकेट को वह अभी बहुत कुछ दे सकते थे। उनकी इस जीत के साथ ही 44 दिन तक चले उस सोप ओपेरा का भी पटाक्षेप हो गया, जिसने लोगों को 'सास बहू' सीरियल भुला दिए थे।

बागी इंडियन क्रिकेट लीग को जवाब देने के लिए शुरू की गई इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग एक भी गेंद फेंके जाने से पहले ही हिट हो गई थी, जब प्रायोजकों और टीवी चैनलों में दुनिया की इस सबसे महँगी घरेलू लीग में हिस्सेदारी को लेकर होड़ मच गई थी।

ललित मोदी की परिकल्पना आईपीएल का जादू धीरे-धीरे लोगों के सिर चढ़कर बोलने लगा। क्रिकेटप्रेमियों को शहरों के बीच मुकाबले का नया प्रयोग रास आया और यही वजह है कि भारतीय क्रिकेट के सबसे बड़े आइकॉन सचिन तेंडुलकर के आउट होने पर भी यहाँ तालियाँ बजीं।

विदेशी खिलाड़ियों और भारतीय क्रिकेट के नए चेहरों को नामचीन सितारों के साथ जोड़कर आठ टीमें बनाई गई थी। इनमें ऑस्ट्रेलिया के महान क्रिकेटर ज्योफ मार्श के बेटे शॉन मार्श सबसे सफल बल्लेबाज साबित हुए जिन्हें बेहद कम दामों पर खरीदा गया था। टूर्नामेंट में सर्वाधिक 616 रन बनाकर उन्होंने ऑरेंज कैप जीती।

पाकिस्तान के सोहेल तनवीर ने ग्लैन मैग्राथ और मुथैया मुरलीधरन जैसे दिग्गजों को पछाड़ते हुए 22 विकेट चटकाकर परपल कैप अपने नाम की। कोलकाता नाइट राइडर्स के मालिक शाहरुख खान और किंग्स इलेवन पंजाब की मालिक प्रीमि जिंटा ने आईपीएल में ग्लैमर जोड़ा और हर मैच में नजर आई। उनके अलावा दिल्ली डेयरडेविल्स ने अक्षय कुमार और मुंबई इंडियंस ने रितिक रोशन को ब्रांड दूत बनाया।

राजस्थान रॉयल्स की खिताबी जीत में सबसे अहम भूमिका निभाने वाले ऑस्ट्रेलिया के शेन वॉटसन 474 रन और 17 विकेट के दम पर मैन आफ द टूर्नामेंट रहे। ऐसा नहीं है कि टूर्नामेंट में सब कुछ सकारात्मक ही रहा। मैदान के भीतर और बाहर कई तरह के विवादों ने भी सुर्खियाँ बटोरी।

इनमें सबसे काला अध्याय रहा हरभजनसिंह और एस. श्रीसंथ का थप्पड़ कांड। मुंबई इंडियन्सके लिए खेलने वाले हरभजन ने मैच हारने के बाद किंग्स इलेवन पंजाब के श्रीसंथ को चाँटा रसीद कर दिया और तीन करोड़ का जुर्माना तथा पूरे टूर्नामेंट का प्रतिबंध झेलना पड़ा। ऐसी भी अटकलें लगाई जा रही थी कि इस विवाद का असर टीम इंडिया के ड्रेसिंग रूम पर पड़ेगा।

रॉयल चैलेंजर्स बेंगलोर की लगातार हार के बाद मालिक विजय माल्या की अपनी ही टीम से ठन गई। माल्या ने टीम के सीईओ चारू शर्मा को हटाने के अलावा टीम चयन में मनमानी का आरोप लगाकर कप्तान राहुल द्रविड़ को भी लताड़ा। मिस्टर कूल द्रविड़ ने हालाँकि अपने स्वभाव के अनुसार पूरे प्रकरण पर चुप्पी साधे रखी। यह बात और है कि टूर्नामेंट की शुरूआत के समय माल्या ने खुद कहा था कि वह चुनी गई टीम से संतुष्ट हैं।

इसके बाद कोलकाता और किंग्स इलेवन के रिजर्व खिलाड़ियों के साथ खराब बर्ताव की खबरें भी आई। किंग्स इलेवन ने बॉलीवुड से प्रीति जिंटा के दोस्तों को ठहराने के लिए इन खिलाड़ियों को पाँच सितारा होटल खाली करने को कहा। वहीं कोलकाता टीम ने ऐसे खिलाड़ियों को घर लौट जाने के निर्देश दे दिए जो कोच जॉन बुकानन की रणनीति का हिस्सा नहीं थे।

चीयरलीडर्स को लेकर भी कम बवाल नहीं मचा। मुंबई और कोलकाता में सामाजिक संगठनों की भृकुटियाँ इन पर तनी और इन लड़कियों को शरीर ढाँकने वाले कपड़े पहनने पड़े।

इन सबके बीच खिलाड़ियों ने अपने शानदार प्रदर्शन के दम पर क्रिकेटप्रेमियों का ध्यान खेल से भटकने नहीं दिया। 39 बरस के सनथ जयसूर्या ने 14 पारियों में 36 छक्के लगाकर साबित किया कि खेल के इस लघुतम संस्करण में भी उम्र कामयाबी के आड़े नहीं आती।

दूसरी ओर रिकॉर्ड कीमतों पर बिके भारतीय क्रिकेट के कुछ कद्दावर अपेक्षाओं पर खरे नहीं उतर सके। मुंबई इंडियन्स के कप्तान और आइकॉन खिलाड़ी सचिन तेंडुलकर लगभग आधे मैचों में ग्रोइन की चोट के कारण बाहर रहे। मैदान पर लौटने के बाद भी वह कोई बड़ा कमाल नहीं कर पाए।

सबसे महँगे छह करोड़ में बिके महेंद्रसिंह धोनी फ्लाप तो नहीं रहे पर वह करिश्मा नहीं कर सके जिसके लिए वह मशहूर हैं। युवराजसिंह फॉर्म में तो थे लेकिन बल्ले से वैसा आतिश नहीं उगल सके, जिसकी बानगी ब्रेंडन मैकुलम ने टूर्नामेंट के पहले ही मैच में दी थी। राहुल द्रविड़ पर बेंगलोर की पूरी टीम की बल्लेबाजी की जिम्मेदारी थी और अपने सारे साथियों की नाकामी के बावजूद वह औसत सफलता हासिल करने में कामयाब रहे।

कोलकाता के कप्तान और आइकॉन सौरव गांगुली ने बल्ले और गेंद दोनों से कमाल दिखाया लेकिन उनकी टीम को कुछ नजदीकी मुकाबले हारने का खामियाजा भुगतना पड़ा। कुल मिलाकर आईपीएल क्रिकेटप्रेमियों के लिए 44 दिन का ऐसा मनोरंजन रहा, जिसमें शाम होते ही सबके कदम घरों की ओर मुड़ जाते थे।

लाखों करोड़ों नजरें टीवी सेट पर चिपक जाती थी और हर जगह बस क्रिकेट के ही चर्चे थे। ऐसी कामयाबी भारत में ना पहले कभी किसी टूर्नामेंट को मिली और ना ही बीसीसीआई का खजाना कभी इतना भरा होगा।
