सरदार पटेल ने भारत निर्माण के समय कहा था कि हमें हमारे भारत का निर्माण हमारी खुद की शिक्षा और संस्कृति के आधार पर करना चाहिए, लेकिन जवाहरलाल नेहरू भारत को आधुनिक बनाना चाहते थे। आधुनिकता के नाम पर भारत क्या बना, यह सभी जानते होंगे। चलिए अभी भी कुछ नहीं बिगड़ा है...!
भारतवर्ष के कई हिस्से अब खो चुके हैं जैसे अफगान, पाकिस्तान, बांग्लादेश, बर्मा आदि। यहां की स्थानीय संस्कृति, भाषा, नृत्य, व्यंजन आदि पर अब धार्मिक कट्टरता हावी है। दूसरी ओर बाजारवाद के माध्यम से पश्चिमी संस्कृति के प्रचलन के चलते भी अब स्थानीय पहचान लुप्त होने लगी है या लुप्त हो गई है। मतलब यह कि लोग अपनी पहचान खोकर दूसरे के रंग में रंग गए हैं। निश्चित ही यह किसी समाज के लिए आत्महत्या जैसा ही है या यह कहें कि अपनी मातृभूमि के प्रति गद्दारी है।
वर्तमान में हिन्दुस्तान में भी यह सभी प्रचलन में होने लगा है। उदाहरण के लिए मालवा से मालवी और कश्मीर से कश्मीरियत अब खत्म होती जा रही है। अब यहां की संस्कृति, भाषा, भूषा, भोजन आदि सभी बदल गया है। अब मालवा या कश्मीरी उत्सवों के आयोजन में ही यहां की संस्कृति की झलक देखने को मिलती है। सबसे बड़ा नुकसान तो तब होता है जबकि उक्त सभी के साथ यहां का स्थानीय इतिहास भी लोग भूलते जाते हैं और वे खुद को किसी और के इतिहास का हिस्सा मानने लगते हैं।

दरअसल, भारतीय समाज के लोकनृत्य, गान, भाषा और व्यंजन में कई राज छुपे हुए हैं। इनका संरक्षण किए जाने की जरूरत है। आप जिस भी क्षेत्र में रहते हैं, वहां की भाषा से प्रेम करें। वहां की भाषा के मुहावरे, लोकोक्ति, लोक-नृत्य, लोक-परंपरा, ज्ञान, व्यंजन आदि के बारे में ज्यादा से ज्यादा ज्ञान हासिल करें। वक्त के साथ यह सभी खत्म हो रहा है। निश्चित ही हमें अपनी राष्ट्र की भाषा और संस्कृति को भी समझना और अपनाना चाहिए। भारत की प्रत्येक भाषा का ज्ञान होना चाहिए लेकिन आपको अपनी स्थानीय भाषा, भूषा और भोजन को ज्यादा से ज्यादा प्रचलन में लाना चाहिए, क्योंकि इसी से आपकी पहचान है। भारत तभी भारत कहलाता है जबकि उसमें सभी तरह के रंग बिखरे हों।
क्या आप सोच सकते हैं कि यदि कश्मीरियत होती तो वहां कितनी शांति, सुख और सुगंध होती? सचमुच ही कश्मीर के लोगों में अब कश्मीरियत नहीं बची। जो क्षेत्र अपनी लोक-परंपरा और भाषा को खो देता है, देर-सबेर उसका भी अस्तित्व समाप्त हो जाता है। वहां एक ऐसा स्वघाती समाज होता है, जो अपनी पीढ़ियों को बर्बादी के रास्ते पर धकेलता रहता है। यदि ऐसा नहीं होता तो आधुनिकता के नाम पर अपनी लोक-परंपरा खो रहे लोग भी एक दिन यह देखते हैं कि हमारे क्षेत्र में हम अब गिनती के ही रहे हैं या कि हम कौन थे यह हमारी पीढ़ियां अब कभी नहीं जान सकेंगी, क्योंकि हमें अपनी पहचान को दूसरे की पहचान बना लिया।
सवाल सिर्फ कश्मीर का ही नहीं, देश के हर राज्य की यही हालत हो चली है। कुछ लोग कहेंगे कि स्थानीयता की क्या जरूरत है? लेकिन ये लोग यह नहीं जानते हैं कि स्थानीय संस्कृति से जुड़े इतिहास और वहां के ज्ञान की संरक्षित किए जाने का कितना महत्व है। हर प्रांत के इतिहास और संस्कृति को जोड़कर ही भारत बनता है। धरती पर सिर्फ एक ही तरह के फूल उगाने की जिद करने वाले यह नहीं जानते हैं कि एक दिन वे रेगिस्तान में बदल जाएंगे।
आज हालात यह है कि स्थानीय लोग अपनी संस्कृति और इतिहास को नहीं जानते हैं। स्थानीय स्तर पर लोक-संस्कृति और परंपरा लुप्त हो चुकी होगी यदि अभी से ही उसे प्रचलन में नहीं लाया गया तो। आने वाले समय में हम अपनी स्थानीय संस्कृति, सभ्यता, भाषा, भूषा, धर्म और ज्ञान के बारे में सिर्फ किताबों में पढ़ेंगे।
