हमारे यहाँ पिता की भूमिका एक लंबा रास्ता तय करके आधुनिक हुई है। एक दौर था, जब पिता का रौब बच्चों को दहशत देता था। आज पिता दोस्त की भूमिका में आ गए हैं। फिर भी कहीं पिता-पुत्र के रिश्तों में एक खिंचाव होता है। हो सकता है, ये पिता की भूमिका के संक्रमण का दौर हो शायद इसलिए...। फिर अब भी कहीं पिता बच्चों के प्रति अपनी भूमिका को लेकर बहुत ज्यादा निश्चित नहीं हैं। अब भी वे डिसीप्लीन और फ्रेंडशिप के बीच कहीं फँसे हुए हैं।

यही वजह है कि छात्र जितेन्द्र चौहान बहुत दिनों तक अपने पिता के अनुशासक रूप से डरते रहे, विकर्षित होते रहे। वे कहते हैं,"मेरे पिता पेशे से शिक्षक हैं। देखने में वे किसी दार्शनिक की तरह नजर आते हैं। मोटा और बड़ी फ्रेम का चश्मा और रूखा-सा चेहरा। बातचीत के नाम पर बच्चों के लिए उनके मुँह से मैंने अब तक आज्ञाएँ और निर्देश ही सुने थे। वे कहते हैं कि मैं हमेशा अपनी माँ से इस बात की शिकायत किया करता था और एक बार तो माँ के सामने रोया भी था कि मेरे पिता के अंदर अपने बच्चों के लिए कोई कोमल भावना है भी या नहीं? माँ ने समझाया तो था कि वे प्यार करते हैं, लेकिन बस उसे जाहिर नहीं कर पाते...लेकिन जब तक मैंने उनके उस रूप को देखा नहीं तब तक मैंने माँ की बात पर यकीन नहीं किया। फिर उस घटना ने सब कुछ बदल दिया।

उस दिन मैं बीमार था। अपने कमरे की खिड़की से मैंने देखा कि पिता माँ से मुझे दवा देने को पूछते हुए अपने साथी शिक्षक शर्माजी कह रहे थे,"डॉक्टर कह रहा था कि जरा देर और हो जाती तो जीतू नहीं बचता।" उनकी आँखें भरी हुईं थीं। मोटे चश्मे को उतारते हुए आँख पोंछने का बहाना करते हुए वे अभी भी उस प्यार को छुपाने का प्रयास कर रहे थे जो उनकी आँखों में भर आया था। मैं हैरान रह गया कि मेरे पिता भी भावुक हो सकते हैं। उनका यह रूप देखकर मैं भी बहुत रोया था। मैं उन्हें कितना गलत समझता था, वे सख्त नहीं हैं, सिर्फ दिखते सख्त हैं।

बीएससी के विद्यार्थी योगेश कहते हैं,"मेरे पिता बहुत ही व्यावहारिक और सुलझे हुए इंसान हैं। वे मेरे रोल मॉडल भी हैं। मैं उनके जैसा ही बनना चाहता हूँ। हालाँकि मैं उनके साथ अधिक समय नहीं बिता पाता क्योंकि पढ़ाई के लिए मैं ज्यादातर बाहर ही रहता हूँ लेकिन वे मेरे लिए बहुत खास हैं। मैं उन्हें दुनिया भर की खुशी देना चाहता हूँ। अभी भी मेरी हमेशा यही कोशिश रहती है कि मैं ऐसा कोई काम नहीं करूँ जिससे उन्हें कोई तकलीफ हो।

मैंने अभी तक के जीवन में उनसे सिर्फ लिया ही है और ऐसा भी नहीं कि मुझे कभी किसी चीज के लिए उनसे डिमांड करनी पड़ी। पता नहीं कैसे वे मेरी जरूरतों को समझ लेते हैं, शायद यही होता हो पिता होना....? अब मेरे बिना कहे कि वे मेरे कोचिंग और कॉलेज जाने की परेशानी भाँप गए और पिछले महीने ही उन्होंने मुझे बाइक दिलाई।"

प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं की तैयारी कर रहे निखिलेश शर्मा कहते हैं,"मेरे पिता मेरे लिए दोस्त ही हैं। उन्होंने हर कदम पर न सिर्फ मेरा खयाल रखा बल्कि जीवन के अपने अनुभवों को भी वे मेरे साथ साझा करते हैं, ताकि मुझे मार्गदर्शन मिलता रहे। अभी तक तो वही मेरा हर तरह से ख्याल रखते आए लेकिन अब मेरी कोशिश यही रहेगी कि मैं अपनी तरफ से ऐसा कोई काम नहीं करूँ कि उन्हें किसी भी तरह का दुख पहुँचे।
