जब युवा एक्टर; खासकर ‘ऑउटसाइडर’ मेरे पास सलाह मांगने आते हैं कि स्ट्रगल करते हुए आगे कैसे बढ़ा जाए, तो सबसे पहली और सबसे अहम बात मैं उनसे यही कहता हूं कि अपना करियर उचित कारणों के लिए आगे बढ़ाइए। सिर्फ इस वजह से स्ट्रगल कीजिए कि परफॉर्म करना ही आपकी जिंदगी है। मैं उनसे आग्रह करता हूं कि परफॉर्मिंग आर्ट्स या इंटरटेनमेंट बिजनेस के प्रलोभन में महज इसलिए न पड़ें कि इस फील्ड में शोहरत और पैसे के साथ कामयाबी मिलती है। ये सब क्षणिक हैं, अस्थायी हैं, दिखावा हैं- केवल फंसाने वाली चीजें हैं। इसीलिए मैं उनसे कहता हूं कि वे अपने हुनर व कला के प्रति ईमानदारी बरतें और परफॉर्म करने का आनंद उठाने के लिए, परफॉर्मिंग से प्यार होने के कारण इस फील्ड में आएं। इस सफर में मैंने एक और चीज सीखी है कि खरापन व प्रामाणिकता सबको समझ में आती है और इसकी वजह से लोग आपके साथ सबसे ज्यादा जुड़ते हैं। अगर आप खुद को कुछ ऐसा दिखाने की कोशिश करते हैं, जो अंदर से आप नहीं हैं तो आप अपना नुकसान कर रहे हैं। अगर आप अपनी आत्मा के प्रति सच्चे हैं, अगर आप जज किए जाने का भय अपने दिमाग से निकाल चुके हैं, तभी आपकी शख्सियत सबसे ज्यादा उभर कर सामने आएगी। मैं उनसे कहता हूं कि ‘आप आप बने रहें’। मौलिक रहें, अपना अनोखापन बरकरार रखें। और दूसरी अहम चीज मैंने यह सीखी है कि जोखिम उठाते रहिए। जितना बड़ा जोखिम उतना बड़ा फल! इस प्रक्रिया में आपसे गलतियां और गड़बड़ियां हो सकती हैं, लेकिन मेरा मानना है कि जिंदगी में असफलता जैसी कोई चीज नहीं होती, सिर्फ सबक होते हैं।

अपना डेब्यू करते वक्त आप वाकई एक अंडरडॉग खिलाड़ी थे और अब आप 83, गली ब्वॉय, जयेशभाई जोरदार जैसी अंडरडॉग फिल्मों में काम कर रहे हैं। इन भूमिकाओं को निभाने के लिए आप ‘कुछ भी असंभव नहीं’ वाली अपनी रियल लाइफ यात्रा से कितनी प्रेरणा या मदद लेते हैं?

हर मुख्तलिफ किरदार निभाने के लिए आपको अपने अनुभवों का खजाना खंगालना पड़ता है, ताकि चरित्र-चित्रण विश्वसनीय, आंतरिक और ईमानदार लगे। अपने अंडरडॉग किरदारों के साथ मैं गहरी सहानुभूति रखता हूं, क्योंकि मैं भी अपनी लाइफ में ऐसे ही हालात से दो-चार होता रहा हूं। ‘गली ब्वॉय’ फिल्म का एक डायलॉग है, जिसका मोटे तौर पर यह मतलब है: “अपनी हकीकत से बावस्ता करने के लिए मैं अपने सपने नहीं बदल सकता, बल्कि अपने सपनों से बावस्ता करने के लिए मैं अपनी हकीकत को ही बदल डालूंगा।“ मैंने इस भावना को अपनी आत्मा की गहराइयों में महसूस किया है। जब इन किरदारों को तमाम विषम परिस्थितियों के खिलाफ खुद को साबित करना पड़ता है, तो उस संघर्ष के साथ मैं बड़े ही जाने-पहचाने ढंग से जुड़ जाता हूं। गली ब्वॉय में मुराद असंभव को संभव बना देता है। फिल्म 83 में कपिल के गुस्ताख नामुमकिन को मुमकिन बना डालते हैं। मैं इन भूमिकाओं को इसलिए विश्वसनीय बना पाता हूं कि मैंने खुद ऐसे हालात का सामना किया है। मैं इन किरदारों के मोहभंग और मायूसी को महसूस कर सकता हूं, उनका गुस्सा, असंतोष और आक्रोश समझ सकता हूं, उनकी कुंठा और हताशा का अनुभव कर सकता हूं, उनके साहस और धैर्य की थाह ले सकता हूं... और मैं यह सब बड़ी गंभीरता व गहराई के साथ कर पाता हूं, क्योंकि मैं खुद इन मारक भावनाओं से गुजर चुका हूं। मैंने यह सब खुद असली रूप में झेला है।”
