टेस्ट मैचों को क्रिकेट का सबसे 'एलीट' रूप माना जाता है। लोग टेस्ट मैचों को पारंपरिक, ओल्ड-फ़ैशन्ड और असली क्रिकेट मानते हैं। टेस्ट मैच यानी खिलाड़ियों की सफ़ेद ड्रेस, लाल रंग की बॉल और पांच दिन चलने वाला गेम।
विशेषज्ञ भी मानते हैं कि असली क्रिकेट तो टेस्ट क्रिकेट ही है। बल्लेबाजों और गेंदबाजों दोनों का असली दमखम भी टेस्ट मैच में उनके प्रदर्शन को देखने के बाद ही पता चलता है।
हालांकि असली क्रिकेट माने जाने के बावजूद टेस्ट क्रिकेट के सामने कई चुनौतियां सामने आने लगीं। इसकी बड़ी वजह थी वन डे और टी-20 मैचों की बढ़ती लोकप्रियता।
अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट मैचों में 1970 से वनडे मैच शुरू हए और 2000 के बाद टी-20 मैच। टी-20 मैच तो आने के बाद तुरंत ही लोकप्रिय हो गया था।
इन सबके बाद हाल ही में T10 और 100-बॉल क्रिकेट ने टेस्ट क्रिकेट के सामने और चुनौतियां खड़ी कर दीं। भारत जैसे देशों में टेस्ट मैचों के दर्शक भी कम होने लगे।
वक़्त के साथ-साथ क्रिकेट भी बदल गया है। 2015 से डे-नाइट मैच खेले जाने लगे। पहला डे-नाइट मैच एडिलेड के ओवल में न्यूज़ीलैंड और ऑस्ट्रेलिया के बीच खेला गया था। इसमें न्यूज़ीलैंड ने तीन विकेट से जीत हासिल की थी। तब से लेकर अब तक कुल 11 डे-नाइट मैच खेले जा चुके हैं।
भारत अपना पहला डे-नाइट टेस्ट मैच शुक्रवार को कोलकाता के इडन-गार्डन स्टेडियम में खेलेगा। ये मैच बांग्लादेश के साथ चल रही टेस्ट सिरीज़ का हिस्सा है।
ये मैच शुक्रवार को दोपहर एक बजे शुरू होगा। डे-नाइट टेस्ट मैचों की एक ख़ास बात ये भी होती है कि ये पिंक यानी गुलाबी बॉल से खेले जाते हैं।

लेकिन पिंक बॉल क्यों?
वैसे तो टेस्ट मैच आमतौर पर रेड यानी लाल गेंद से खेले जाते हैं लेकिन डे-नाइट टेस्ट मैचों में गेंद का रंग बदलकर गुलाबी हो जाता है।
ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि डे-नाइट मैचों में प्राकतिक रोशनी की जगह कृत्रिम रोशनी का सहारा लेना पड़ता है और इसीलिए पिंक बॉल का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है।
फ़्लडलाइट में बैट्समैन के लिए रेड बॉल को देखना मुश्किल होता है जबकि पिंक बॉल आसानी से देखी जाती है। यही वजह है कि डे-नाइट टेस्ट मैचों के लिए पिंक बॉल का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है।
ये पहला मौका है जब भारत में किसी अंतरराष्ट्रीय मैच में पिंक बॉल का इस्तेमाल किया जा जाएगा। ऐसे में पिंक बॉल और क्रिकेट से जुड़े कई दिलचस्प सवाल भी उठ रहे हैं।
बीबीसी ने क्रिकेट के जानकारों से बात की और मैच में पिंक बॉल की भूमिका और डे-नाइट मैच से जुड़े कुछ सवाल पूछे।
क्या टेस्ट क्रिकेट बदल जाएगा?
जाने-माने पत्रकार विजय लोकपल्ली कहते हैं, "लोगों ने कई वर्षों तक टेस्ट क्रिकेट का जमकर लुत्फ़ उठाया है लेकिन जैसे बाकी चीज़ें बदलती हैं, वैसे ही क्रिकेट भी बदला है।
इस मैच के आख़िर में हमें पता चल जाएगा कि भारतीय प्रशंसक क्रिकेट के इस नए रूप का स्वागत कर रहे हैं या नहीं।"
क्या पिंक बॉल और डे-नाइट मैच ज़्यादा दर्शकों को आकर्षित करेगा?
इसके जवाब में लोकपल्ली कहते हैं, "ऐसी चर्चा थी कि अगर खिलाड़ियों की पोशाक में बदलाव हो, पिंक बॉल लाई जाए और डे-नाइट मैच करवाए जाएं तो टेस्ट मैचों में ज़्यादा दर्शक जुटाए जा सकेंगे। लेकिन मुझे इसे लेकर संदेह है। ये ज़रूर हो सकता है कि इन सबसे टीवी पर मैच देखने वालों की संख्या में इजाफ़ा हो जाए। दूसरी तरफ़, टीवी पर मैच देखने वाले की संख्या में बढ़ोत्तरी ही असल में टेस्ट मैच के दर्शकों में संख्या में गिरावट की वजह है।"
लोकपल्ली कहते हैं, "हाल ही में हुई ऐशेज़ सिरीज़ और भारत-इंग्लैंड की सिरीज़ देखने के लिए स्टेडियम में अच्छी-ख़ासी तादाद में लोग आए। दर्शकों की संख्या कॉम्पिटिशन और खेलने वाली टीमों के क्लास पर निर्भर करती है। मैच का समय बदल देना और गेंद का रंग बदलने से खेल के साथ इंसाफ़ नहीं होगा। अगर बदलावों से खेल की गुणवत्ता बेहतर होती है तो इनका स्वागत है लेकिन टेस्ट क्रिकेट के क्लासिक तौर-तरीकों को बदलकर इसे लोकप्रिय बनाने की कोशिश दुख पहुंचाती है।"
चूंकि इस सिरीज़ में भारत मज़बूत स्थिति में है इसलिए विजय लोकपल्ली मानते हैं कि कोलकाता में होने वाले मैच में भी भारतीय टीम हावी रह सकती है। उन्होंने ये भी कहा कि पिंक बॉल की 'ब्लैक सीम' गेंदबाजों के लिए मुश्किल पैदा सकती है।
'ब्लैक सीम से गेंद देखने में मुश्किल होगी'
भारत के पूर्व फ़ॉस्ट बॉलर और अंतरराष्ट्रीय मैच खेलने वाले मदन लाल का मानना है कि भारत में होने वाला पहला डे-नाइट टेस्ट मैच दिलचस्प होगा।
उन्होंने कहा, "इस सिरीज़ में भारत के तेज़ गेंदबाज अच्छी लय में हैं। वो पिंक बॉल का अच्छा इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं कि इसकी काली सीम को देख पाना बांग्लादेशी क्रिकेटरों के लिए मुश्किल होगा। इसके अलावा पिंक बॉल में बहुत ज़्यादा मूवमेंट होता है इसलिए शाम की ओस की वजह से स्पिनर्स को परेशानी हो सकती है। हालांकि अश्विन जैसे अच्छे स्पिनर्स के लिए ये कोई चुनौती नहीं होगी।"
टेस्ट क्रिकेट में हुए नए बदलावों के बारे में मदन लाल ने कहा, "डे-नाइट मैच साल 2015 से खेले जा रहे हैं। इसे डे क्रिकेट की जगह लेने में अभी बहुत वक़्त लगेगा। बदलावों को रोका नहीं जा सकता लेकिन सिर्फ़ लोकप्रियता के लिए किए जाने वाले बदलावों को उचित नहीं कहा जा सकता।"
भारत, बांग्लादेश के साथ हो रही इस सिरीज़ में 1-0 से आगे है। इंदौर में हुए पहले टेस्ट में इसने बांग्लादेश को एक पारी और 130 रनों से हरा दिया था।
भारतीय कप्तान विराट कोहली ने कहा कि पिंक बॉल टीम के लिए एक चुनौती होगी। कोहली ने ये भी कहा कि पहला डे-नाइट मैच एक यादगार मौका होगा।
भारत में टेस्ट क्रिकेट बड़े बदलावों के दौर से गुज़र रहा है। लेकिन क्या ये बदलाव टेस्ट क्रिकेट को बदल देंगे? जानकारों का कहना है कि इसका जवाब आने वाले वक़्त में ही मिल पाएगा।
