बीबीसी देश की महिला खिलाड़ियों को सम्मानित करने के लिए पहली बार अवॉर्ड लेकर आ रहा है। बीबीसी की भारतीय भाषाओं की प्रधान संपादक रूपा झा और बीबीसी के एशिया-पैसिफिक के बिज़नेस डेवेलपमेंट हेड इंदु शेखर ने दिल्ली में एक प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में इसकी घोषणा की।
भारत के लिए ओलंपिक मेडल जीतने वाली पहली महिला खिलाड़ी कर्णम मल्लेश्वरी प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस की मुख्य अतिथि रहीं। कर्णम मल्लेश्वरी ने इस मौके पर कहा, हमारे समाज में महिलाओं को कमज़ोर समझा जाता है। लेकिन खेलों में सब बराबर हैं।
जब हम खेलते हैं तो हमें सम्मान मिलता है। लगता है कि हमने भी देश के लिए कुछ किया। और #BBCISWOTY जैसे अवॉर्ड हमारा हौसला बढ़ाते हैं। बीबीसी इंडियन स्पोर्ट्सवीमेन ऑफ द ईयर पुरस्कार का ऐलान अगले साल मार्च में किया जाएगा।

क्या है पुरस्कार का मक़सद? : बीबीसी की कोशिश ज़्यादा से ज़्यादा महिलाओं और युवा दर्शकों और पाठकों तक पहुंचने की रही है। ये पुरस्कार इसी मुहिम का हिस्सा है। बीबीसी की भारतीय सेवाओं की प्रधान संपादक रूपा झा मानती हैं कि देश की महिला खिलाड़ियों को खेल के मैदान में जीत से पहले कई चुनौतियों को हराना होता है।
खेलप्रेमियों से अपनी पसंदीदा खिलाड़ी को वोट करने की अपील करते हुए उन्होंने कहा, ये ज़रूरी है कि हम देश की महिला खेल हस्तियों ने जो हासिल किया है, उसे मान्यता दें। लेकिन साथ ही हम उन चुनौतियों को भी अपने पाठकों और दर्शकों तक ले जाना चाहते हैं जिनका सामना इन खिलाड़ियों को करना पड़ता है।
उन्होंने कहा, ये ज़रूरी है कि हम महिला खिलाड़ियों की बड़ी उपलब्धियों के बारे में चर्चा करें, लेकिन उनके सामने क्या चुनौतियां रहीं, ये भी दुनिया को बताना ज़रूरी है। साल 2000 के बाद भारत को मिले कुल 13 ओलंपिक मेडल्स में से 5 महिलाओं ने अपने नाम किए हैं। 1999 तक मिले इतने ही ओलंपिक पदकों में से सब पुरुषों ने ही जीते थे।
इस मौके पर बीबीसी के एशिया पैसेफ़िक-बिज़नेस डेवलपमेंट हेड इंदु शेखर ने कहा, वैश्विक स्तर पर बात करें तो हर 10 में से एक शख़्स जो बीबीसी को देखता-सुनता है, वो भारत में रहता है। ये इवेंट उन सभी दर्शकों और श्रोताओं के साथ अपना रिश्ता और मज़बूत करने का एक ज़रिया है।
बीबीसी वर्ल्ड सर्विस के डायरेक्टर जेमी एंगस के मुताबिक़, बीबीसी ख़बरों में महिलाओं की भागीदारी बढ़ाने की कोशिश करता रहा है। बीबीसी इंडियन स्पोर्ट्सवीमेन ऑफ द ईयर अवॉर्ड इसी लक्ष्य की ओर एक कोशिश है। ये पुरस्कार भारतीय खेलों में महिलाओं की बढ़ती हुई उपलब्धियों को सम्मान देने का एक मौक़ा है।

भारत में हमेशा महिलाएं ही कमजोर मानी जाती हैं। इसे हमेशा एंटरटेनमेंट इंडस्ट्री में देखा जाता है या विक्टिम जैसे दिखाते हैं। स्पोर्ट्स महिलाओं में आत्मविश्वास बढ़ाता है। ये एक पॉवर है महिला के लिए। ये अवॉर्ड आने वाले फ्यूचर प्लेयर्स को मोटिवेशन देगा। अगर हम खिलाड़ी को सम्मान देते हैं तो ये खिलाड़ियों का हौसला बढ़ाएगा।
अभी मीडिया खिलाड़ियों को अच्छे से कवर करता है। 1994 में जब मैं वर्ल्ड चैंपियन बनी थी और ठीक उसी वक्त मिस वर्ल्ड भी बनीं। लेकिन जो सम्मान उन्हें मिला वो हमें नहीं मिला। अभी वक़्त बदल रहा है। अब सिंधु वर्ल्ड चैंपियन बनी हैं उन्हें जैसा सम्मान मिला हमें वो नहीं मिलता था। मैं चाहती हूं कि स्पोर्ट्स कवरेज को तवज्जों दी जाए। इससे हमारी बेटियां आगे बढ़ेंगी।
क्रिकेट को लेकर लोगों का रवैया अलग है एक कारण ये भी है कि इसे आगे ले जाया गया। वेटलिफ्टिंग को ज्यादा नहीं अपनाया गया है अब तक। वेटलिफ्टिंग करने वालों के माता-पिता भी इतने अमीर नहीं होते कि वे प्रमोट करें। लॉन टेनिस, बैटमिंटन और बॉक्सिंग में लोगों को इंटरेस्ट ज्यादा रहता है। वेटलिफ्टिंग आज भी मर्दों का खेल माना जाता है।
कैसे चुनी जाएंगी पुरस्कार की विजेता? : बीबीसी की चुनी हुई एक जूरी ने पुरस्कार के लिए 5 खिलाड़ियों के नाम तय किया हैं। जूरी में देश के कई आला खेल पत्रकार, जानकार और लेखक शामिल थे। फरवरी महीने में इन 5 खिलाड़ियों के नामों का ऐलान होगा। आप बीबीसी की किसी भी वेबसाइट पर जाकर इन पांचों खिलाड़ियों में से अपनी पसंदीदा प्लेयर के लिए वोट कर सकते हैं।
सबसे ज़्यादा वोट पाने वाली खिलाड़ी को दिल्ली में होने वाले एक समारोह में बीबीसी इंडियन स्पोर्ट्सवीमेन ऑफ द ईयर अवॉर्ड दिया जाएगा। इसके अलावा भारतीय खेल में अहम योगदान के लिए बीबीसी एक महिला खिलाड़ी को 'लाइफटाइम अचीवमेंट अवॉर्ड' भी देने जा रहा है।
भारतीय महिला खिलाड़ियों की बात करें तो पिछले एशियाई खेलों में भारत को मिले कुल 57 मेडल्स में से 28 यानी लगभग आधे महिलाओं ने जीते। इस साल दोहा में हुई एशियन एथलेटिक्स चैम्पियनशिप में भारत के हिस्से आए 17 में से 10 पदक महिलाओं ने ही बटोरे थे।
