अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ने हमले में मारे गए ईरानी कमांडर जनरल क़ासिम सुलेमानी को 'राक्षस' (monster) कहते हुए दावा किया कि अमेरिका ने उन्हें मारकर कई मासूम लोगों की जान बचाई है। ट्रंप ने कहा, वो एक राक्षस था, वो मर गया। वो हमारे ख़िलाफ़ एक बड़ा और बुरा हमला करने की तैयारी कर रहा था। मुझे नहीं लगता इस बारे में कोई शिकायत कर सकता है।

उन्होंने ये भी कहा कि इराक़ से अमेरिकी सैनिकों का निकल जाना उस देश के लिए सबसे ख़राब होगा। उधर इराक़ के प्रधानमंत्री आदिल अब्दुल महदी ने कहा है कि इराक़ से विदेशी फ़ौजियों के निकल जाने से इराक़ एक संभावित युद्ध से बच जाएगा।

प्रधानमंत्री महदी के अनुसार, तनाव को कम करने का ये अकेला रास्ता है। उन्होंने कहा कि अमेरिकी सैनिकों की वापसी से संबंधित जानकारी उन्हें मिली थी लेकिन कुछ ही घंटों के बाद अमेरिका की तरफ़ से कहा गया कि वो इससे पीछे हट गए हैं और पहले जो संदेश भेजा गया था, वो ग़लत था।

मोदी की 'जन विरोधी' नीतियों के ख़िलाफ़ भारत बंद
देश की 10 ट्रेड यूनियनों ने केंद्र सरकार की कथित जन विरोधी नीतियों के ख़िलाफ़ बुधवार को भारत बंद का आह्वान किया। बंद का आह्वान करने वालों में इंटक, एआईटीयूसी और सीटू जैसे संगठन शामिल हैं। बैंक यूनियन, छात्रसंघों के अलावा कई राजनीतिक दलों ने भी बंद का समर्थन किया है। बंद का आह्वान करने वाले संगठनों का दावा है कि क़रीब 25 करोड़ लोग बंद में हिस्सा लेंगे।

यूनियनों का कहना है कि वो प्रस्तावित लेबर लॉ के विरोध में बंद कर रहे हैं। बंद के कारण बैंक के कामकाज पर असर होगा, लोगों को एटीएम में कैश की कमी का सामना करना पड़ सकता है। लेकिन ऑनलाइन बैंकिंग की सुविधा पर कोई असर नहीं होगा।

क़रीब 15-20 देशों का एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल जल्द ही भारत प्रशासित कश्मीर का दौरा करेगा और वहां के ज़मीनी हालात का जायज़ा लेगा। समाचार एजेंसी पीटीआई के अनुसार, इस दल में खाड़ी के देशों के अलावा, पी-5, यूरोपीय संघ, लैटिन अमेरिका और आसियान देशों के प्रतिनिधि भी शामिल होंगे। प्रतिनिधिमंडल जम्मू भी जाएगा और उपराज्यपाल जीसी मुर्मू से मुलाक़ात करेगा।

अगस्त 2019 में केंद्र सरकार ने संविधान के अनुच्छेद 370 के तहत जम्मू-कश्मीर को मिलने वाले विशेष राज्य के दर्जे को ख़त्म कर दिया था और उसे दो केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों में विभाजित कर दिया था। इससे पहले अक्‍टूबर 2019 में सरकार ने यूरोपीय संघ के 26 सांसदों को जम्मू-कश्मीर का दौरा करने की इजाज़त दी थी।

लेकिन उस समय इस बात को लेकर बहुत विवाद हुआ था क्योंकि सरकार उस समय विपक्षी पार्टी के नेता राहुल गांधी समेत किसी को भी वहां जाने की अनुमति नहीं दे रही थी। प्रतिनिधिमंडल के दौरे की तारीख़ की आधिकारिक घोषणा नहीं हुई है लेकिन अनुमान लगाया जा रहा है कि 9 जनवरी को ये दल 2 दिवसीय यात्रा के लिए निकल पड़ेगा।
