भारत ने पहली पारी में 474 रन बनाए और अपना पदार्पण टेस्ट खेल रहे अफगानिस्तान को 1 ही दिन में 109 और 103 रनों पर समेट दिया। भारत ने अफगानिस्तान से फॉलोआन कराया और 2 दिन के अंदर मैच समाप्त कर दिया। भारत की इससे पहले सबसे बड़ी जीत पारी और 239 रनों से थी, जो उसने मई 2007 में बांग्लादेश के खिलाफ ढाका और नवंबर 2017 में श्रीलंका के खिलाफ नागपुर में हासिल की थी।
भारत ने 18वीं बार अपने टेस्ट इतिहास में पारी से जीत हासिल की। भारत ने सुबह 6 विकेट पर 347 रनों से आगे खेलते हुए पहली पारी में 474 रन बनाए। अफगानिस्तान की टीम अपनी पहली पारी में मात्र 27.5 ओवरों में 109 रनों पर ढेर हो गई और दूसरी पारी में हालांकि उसने 38.4 ओवर खेले लेकिन उसका बोरिया-बिस्तरा 103 रनों पर बंध गया।
ट्वंटी-20 क्रिकेट में शानदार प्रदर्शन करने वाली और हाल में बांग्लादेश को 3-0 से पीटकर इस मैच में उतरी अफगानिस्तान की टीम को विश्व की नंबर 1 टीम भारत ने यह सबक दे दिया कि लंबे फॉर्मेट में उसे अभी काफी मेहनत करनी है। अफगानिस्तान की पहली पारी में जहां अश्विन ने 8 ओवरों में 27 रनों पर 4 विकेट लिए वहीं ईशांत शर्मा ने 28 रनों पर 2 विकेट, जडेजा ने 18 रनों पर 2 विकेट और उमेश यादव ने 18 रनों पर 1 विकेट लिया। यादव ने इस 1 विकेट के साथ अपने 100 टेस्ट विकेट भी पूरे कर लिए।

दूसरी पारी में जडेजा ने 17 रनों पर 4 विकेट, यादव ने 26 रनों पर 3 विकेट, ईशांत ने 17 रनों पर 2 विकेट और अश्विन ने 32 रनों पर 1 विकेट लिया। जडेजा ने मैच में कुल 6 विकेट, अश्विन ने 5 विकेट, यादव ने 4 विकेट और ईशांत ने 4 विकेट हासिल कर इस ऐतिहासिक टेस्ट को 2 दिन में समाप्त कर दिया।
अफगानिस्तान के कप्तान असगर स्तानिकजयी ने मैच से पहले अपने स्पिनरों को भारतीय स्पिनरों के मुकाबले श्रेष्ठ बताया था, लेकिन 2 दिन में टेस्ट समाप्त होने के बाद स्तानिकजयी को यह पता चल गया होगा कि 'स्पिन का बॉस' कौन है? भारत की यह 2 दिनों में पहली टेस्ट जीत है।
भारतीय टीम ने पहली पारी में 365 रनों की विशाल बढ़त हासिल कर अफगानिस्तान को फॉलोआन खेलने के लिए मजबूर किया। अफगानिस्तान की दूसरी पारी में हशमतुल्लाह शाहिदी ने सर्वाधिक नाबाद 36 और कप्तान स्तानिकजयी ने 25 रन बनाए। यादव ने दूसरी पारी में शीर्ष 4 में से 3 विकेट निकालकर अफगानिस्तान को झकझोरा जबकि जडेजा ने आखिरी 6 में से 4 विकेट लेकर मेहमान टीम को जमीन सुंघा दी।

अफगानिस्तान की बल्लेबाजी का दोनों पारियों में बेहद खराब प्रदर्शन रहा और 1 दिन से कम के खेल में उसकी दोनों पारियां सिमट गईं। अफगानिस्तान के लिए पहली पारी की शुरुआत निराशाजनक रही और मोहम्मद शहजाद (14) चौथे ही ओवर में हार्दिक पांड्या के हाथों रनआउट हो गए। जावेद अहमदी 8 गेंदों में 1 ही रन बना सके और ईशांत ने उन्हें बोल्ड किया। रहमत शाह ने 15 गेंदों में 2 चौके लगाकर 14 रन बनाए और उमेश ने उन्हें पगबाधा किया।
अफगान बल्लेबाजों पर भारतीय गेंदबाजों का दबाव साफ दिखा और 50 रनों पर आधी टीम पैवेलियन लौट गई। विकेटकीपर अफसरजजयी (6) को भी ईशांत ने बोल्ड किया। इसके बाद भारतीय स्पिनरों की विशेषज्ञ जोड़ी अश्विन और जडेजा ने मध्य एवं निचले क्रम को धराशायी किया। अश्विन ने अफगान कप्तान स्तानिकजयी को अपना पहला शिकार बनाया, जो 11 रन ही बना सके।
स्तानिकजयी ने 14 गेंदों में 2 चौके लगाए और अश्विन ने उन्हें बोल्ड कर 5वें बल्लेबाज के रूप में वापस भेजा। इसके बाद हस्मतुल्लाह शाहिदी (11) अश्विन की गेंद पर पगबाधा हो गए। राशिद आईपीएल में सनराइजर्स हैदराबाद के लिए आखिरी समय में धुआंधार पारी के लिए चर्चा में आए थे लेकिन इस बार वे 7 रनों पर जडेजा का शिकार बने।
अश्विन ने फिर यामिन अहमदजयी को शून्य पर जडेजा के हाथों कैच कराया जबकि मोहम्मद नबी 9वें बल्लेबाज के रूप में अश्विन की गेंद पर शर्मा को कैच दे बैठे। नबी ने सर्वाधिक 24 रन की पारी खेली। मुजीब उर रहमान ने आखिरी समय में 15 रन जोड़े और जडेजा ने उन्हें दिनेश कार्तिक के हाथों स्टंप कराकर अफगानिस्तान की पारी 109 रनों पर समेट दी।
इससे पहले ऑलराउंडर हार्दिक पांड्या की 71 रनों की तेजतर्रार पारी की बदौलत भारत ने 474 रनों का विशाल स्कोर बनाया। भारत ने गुरुवार के 6 विकेट पर 347 रनों से आगे खेलना शुरू किया था। पांड्या ने 10 रनों से आगे खेलते हुए 94 गेंदों में 10 चौकों की मदद से 71 रन बनाए। पांड्या का यह तीसरा अर्द्धशतक था। रविचन्द्रन अश्विन ने 18, रवीन्द्र जडेजा ने 20 और 11वें नंबर के बल्लेबाज उमेश यादव ने 21 गेंदों में 2 चौके और 2 छक्के उड़ाते हुए नाबाद 26 रन ठोंके। भारतीय पारी 104.5 ओवरों में समाप्त हुई।
